INTERNET FILTERING POLICY
Glasgow City Council provides free access to
the Internet to meet the information and learning needs of all of the people of Glasgow.
It has a filtering policy which helps ensure safer access to the Internet, especially for
children and young people.
There are three levels of Internet access in
the Citys libraries.
Level 1:
All customers can access web-based email and
an extensive range of information resources pre-selected by library staff for quality,
currency and accuracy. Access at this level does not require library membership.
Level 2:
As a library member you can use your
individual log-in to access wider Internet resources. This service will be filtered.
Children and young people who are library
members may also have wider access, which will be filtered at an appropriate level,
provided their parents and guardians agree and are aware of the issues.
Level 3:
Adults who are library members may request
unfiltered access to the Internet for the purposes of research or where legitimate
information sites to which they require access have been consistently blocked.
Conditions of Use
Customers agree to observe the rules and
procedures of the Council at all times. Using the Internet to view inappropriate material
after requesting unfiltered access, viewing or distributing illegal material, using foul,
racist or abusive language in email and other electronic services are examples of misuse
that could lead to customers having the right to Internet access withdrawn.
Notes on Policy
Internet filtering also applies to web-based
email. The filtering system retains records of Internet access that can be used to assist
in identifying misuse.
Information and guidance on safety on the
Internet will be given to parents and guardians when children or young people apply to be
members of the library.
Staff will be happy to make available any
legitimate site that has been blocked on request.
By progressing beyond this page, you are
deemed to have understood and accepted the conditions of use relating to the Internet, as
outlined within this policy.
Please remember to log out
at the end of your session. |
